Critical Thinker is a tool developed by Dr. Jack Carroll, distinguished Professor in Penn State’s College of IST, to stimulate and support collaborative critical thinking which allows students to construct dialectic analyses. The tool is designed to engage students in critical thinking experiences and has shown positive learning effects. During this COIL Conversation, Dr. Carroll provides a review of results from two studies of the Critical Thinker tool and as will walk us through a brief demo. Plans for integrating Critical Thinker into MOOCs will also be explored.
Dr. Carroll is a faculty member in Penn State’s College of Information Sciences and Technology. He is a Distinguished Professor and co-Director (with Professors Mary Beth Rosson and Heng Xu) of the College of IST’s Laboratory for Computer Supported Collaboration and Learning. Dr. Carroll is also the Director of Penn State’s Center for Human-Computer Interaction.
