Dr. Charles Miller, Executive Director and Professor of the Institute for Design Innovation (College of Education and Human Development – University of Minnesota) and Co-founder/Chief Design Officer of Vidku, shares a narrative of design, transformation, and innovation in the K-20 space and beyond.
Originally designed as video-based discussion platform for a single PhD course, Flipgrid has expanded and evolved into a collaboration environment used by millions of teachers, students, and organizations across six continents. The technology, research, and design also sparked the creation of Vidku, a new Minneapolis startup established in February 2015, that recently closed a $17 million Series A round to drive future development and adoption of Flipgrid. Vidku will focus on expanded opportunities within the education community while exploring innovative applications across a variety of industries where Flipgrid is currently used.
In this COIL Conversation, Dr. Miller discusses the opportunities and barriers in this narrative in addition to ideas for future academic sponsored engagement as a transformative and sustainable foundation for research and innovation.
