In the UK, adults now spend more time on mobile devices than sleeping. Technology is changing how people shop, consume news, and search for new knowledge and information. This isn’t just while seated at a computer or in front of a newspaper anymore, it’s 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And for those of us in Education, this means we’re seeing a change in how people want to receive their learning. New technology provides us with great opportunities (and challenges) in how we enable learning to fit these changes in behavior.
In this COIL Conversation Simon Tindall, Head of New Business at the Open University Worldwide, will look at the impact of technology on learning, and will discuss some of the resulting trends within online provision. This is not just about the delivery mechanism, it’s about maximizing capabilities to produce learning with which people can and want to engage.
Having worked for many years for commercial organizations selling into higher education, Simon ‘switched sides’ in 2014, joining the Open University (OU) to generate new business propositions and partnerships with commercial, public and academic partners. From distance learning expertise through to large-scale projects for social good; from Smart City research, through to cancer sniffing dogs; his role focuses on finding new ways for the OU to do business. Previously, Simon worked for Sun Microsystems, Steelcase and Desire2Learn.
